March 2014 Student of the Month - Anna Kluemke

March Student of the Month - Anna Kluemke

Williamsville High School is pleased to announce that senior Anna Kluemke has been selected as the March Student of the Month. Anna was selected by the senior class sponsors on the basis of academic performance, extra-curricular participation, and personal traits. She will receive a $100 cash award from the Williamsville State Bank and will also be eligible for Student of the Year.

Anna is consistently listed on the high honor roll. She is a member of the WHS chapter of the National Honor Society, currently serving as Member at Large. She is also an Illinois State Scholar. In October, Anna was elected to Homecoming Court and chosen to be the 2013 Homecoming Queen.

At WHS, Anna has participated in a wide variety of activities. She is a student leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is a four year member of Scholastic Bowl, and a three year participant of Student Council, the Drama Department’s theater productions, and the Youth and Government organization. In Youth and Government, Anna served as a committee chair and WHS delegation Vice President.

Anna has generously volunteered her time with organizations such as Contact Ministries, Harvestland Children’s Ministries at Hope Church, Peer Tutoring, the WHS Community Food & Teen Gift Drive, and even a mission trip to Haiti.

Anna plans to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, majoring in Speech and Hearing Science.

February 2014 Student of the Month - Haley Freschi

February Student of the Month - Haley Freschi

Williamsville High School is pleased to announce that senior Haley Freschi has been selected as the February Student of the Month. Haley was selected by the senior class sponsors on the basis of academic performance, extra-curricular participation, and personal traits. She will receive a $100 cash award from the Williamsville State Bank and will also be eligible for Student of the Year.

Haley is consistently listed on the high honor roll. She is a member of the WHS chapter of the National Honor Society and the PSAE Exceeds Team. Haley is a three year member of Student Council and currently holds the office of Student Council President. While at WHS, she has served as the Vice President of her class, played for three years on the Lady Bullets Golf Team, served on the Prom Committee, and participated in a school musical.

Haley has volunteered her time in a variety of capacities. She helped organize the successful WHS T-Shirt Drive and the annual WHS Community Food and Teen Gift Drive. She has also donated time to other worthwhile facilities and organizations such as the Villa Nursing Homes, Festival of Trees, and the Summer Bridges Tutoring Program.

Haley plans to attend Southeast Missouri State under the Regent’s Scholarship, majoring in Mass Communications.

January 2014 Student of the Month - Marty Pesch

Januar Student of the Month - Marty Pesch

Williamsville High School is pleased to announce that senior Marty Pesch has been selected as the January Student of the Month. Marty was selected by the senior class sponsors on the basis of academic performance, extra-curricular participation, and personal traits. He will receive a $100 cash award from the Williamsville State Bank and will also be eligible for Student of the Year.

Marty is ranked second in his class, maintaining straight A’s throughout high school while taking all of the AP and honors Science, Math, English and History classes available. He was named an Illinois State Scholar and a member of the PSAE All-Exceeds Team. He has been recognized as a 2014 Susan Cook House Student of the Month and an SJ-R Scholar-Athlete of the Week. He is a 2013 Wendy’s High School Heisman State Finalist and a nominee for the IHSA All-State Academic Team. Marty helped produce a video of his grandfather’s story for the ISBE WWII Veterans’ Memorial Board Classroom Project which received 3rd place in the state. Marty recently finished with the top score in both Math and Chemistry at the WYSE Regional Competition.

While at WHS, Marty has been involved in a variety of activities and held numerous leadership positions. He participated in Scholastic Bowl during his freshmen year and served as a JV Captain. He was chosen to represent WHS as a delegate at the HOBY Leadership Seminar during his sophomore year. He is a three year participant in YMCA Youth and Government, serving as Chaplain during his senior year. He is Vice President of National Honor Society and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In Concert Band Marty plays clarinet and lead tenor saxophone in the Jazz, Marching, and Pep Bands. Marty was a member of the saxophone ensemble that earned Best of Day at IHSA Solo & Ensemble Contest. He also received soloist honors at the WIU and EIU Jazz Festivals and auditioned into the IMEA All-District Jazz Band. He was a member of the WHS Jazz Band which was selected to perform at the 2013 IMEA All-State Convention and which won the Small Division Grand Champion trophy at the WIU Jazz Festival three years in a row.

He is a four year member of the Bullet Golf, Basketball, and Baseball Teams. In golf, Marty was medalist in several events, finished second at Regionals this year, and qualified for Sectionals his sophomore, junior, and senior years. As captain and MVP of the golf team his senior year, Marty culminated his high school career with an appearance at the IHSA State Golf Finals, finishing in a tie for 11th Place.

Marty is a member of the Springfield First United Methodist Church and has volunteered there and with the Inner City Mission, WHS Teen Gift & Community Food Drive, SUMC Vacation Bible School and Chicken Dinners, Alex’s Lemonade Stand for Cancer, WHS concessions, WHS Baseball and Basketball youth camps, and the WHS Senior Prom.

Marty will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and major in Mechanical Engineering.

December 2013 Student of the Month - Rachel Rhodes

December Student of the Month - Rachel Rhodes

Williamsville High School is pleased to announce that senior Rachel Rhodes has been selected as the December Student of the Month.  Rachel was selected by the senior class sponsors on the basis of academic performance, extra-curricular participation, and personal traits.  She will receive a $100 cash award from the Williamsville State Bank and will also be eligible for Student of the Year.

Rachel is consistently listed on the high honor roll.  She is a member of Student Council and the National Honor Society. While at WHS, she has participated in Lady Bullet Volleyball and Track.

During her junior year, Rachel’s volleyball honors included being listed on the Third Team All Conference and Sangamon County All Tournament Teams.  Rachel’s senior season included being named co-captain with the following honors:  Mt. Pulaski All Tournament Team, Sangamon County All Tournament Team, and 1st Team All Conference. 

Rachel also excels in Track with accolades including 2012 State Runner Up for High Jump, four state medals, and team MVP in 2011, 2012, and 2013.  She is a member of the USA Track and Field Club and a 2013 Junior Olympic National Runner Up in High Jump.

Rachel has actively volunteered in many areas including the Sherman Elementary Summer School Program, the Memorial Women’s Biathlon, the Williamsville Community Blood Drive, and selling concessions for the WJFL.

Rachel is currently undecided on where she will attend college, but is planning to major in pre-medicine.

November 2013 Student of the Month - Rachel Haworth

November Student of the Month - Rachel HaworthWilliamsville High School is pleased to announce that senior Rachel Haworth has been selected as the November Student of the Month. Rachel was selected by the senior class sponsors on the basis of academic performance, extra-curricular participation, and personal traits. She will receive a $100 cash award from the Williamsville State Bank and will also be eligible for Student of the Year.

Rachel is consistently listed on the high honor roll. She is a member of the WHS chapter of the National Honor Society and the PSAE Exceeds Team. She has received the WHS DAR Good Citizenship Award and was recently listed as an Illinois State Scholar. She is also a member of the Scholastic Bowl team and performs regularly in WHS drama productions. For employment, Rachel not only works part-time at Sams Too, but she also cleans the home and assists a man with special needs in Springfield.

Rachel has actively volunteered in many capacities at the Sherman Church of the Nazarene, including the Sunday School program, the church nursery, and at Vacation Bible School. In June of 2013, Rachel worked with One Heart –Many Hands to help renovate a house and the landscaping for a senior citizen. As a Peer Tutor, Rachel helps other WHS students who might need some help with their homework.

Rachel is currently deciding between Indiana Wesleyan University and Olivet Nazarene University. Her plan is to major in nursing.

October 2013 Student of the Month - Jonathan Miller

October Student of the Month - Jonathan MillerWilliamsville High School is pleased to announce that senior Jonathan Miller has been selected as the October Student of the Month. Jonathan was selected by the senior class sponsors on the basis of academic performance, extra-curricular participation, and personal traits. He will receive a $100 cash award from the Williamsville State Bank and will also be eligible for Student of the Year.

Jonathan is consistently listed on the high honor roll. He is a member of the WHS chapter of the National Honor Society and currently serves as the chapter Secretary. He has received the honor of being a member of the 2013-2014 PSAE Exceeds Team.

He has been involved in a comprehensive list of activities while at WHS. Jonathan participates in Choir, Band, Vocal Jazz, Madrigals, as well as IMEA competitions in Vocal Jazz and Concert Choir. He is also a three sport athlete that plays football, basketball, and track. Jonathan is a leader on and off the playing field. He is a Huddle Leader for the WHS chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Jonathan is also a member of Youth and Government at WHS and has been elected as Chaplain of the Senate and President of the Williamsville delegation of Youth and Government.

Jonathan is fluent in American sign language and assists with many activities for the Springfield Deaf Club and the Springfield Illinois Association for the Deaf. He is very active in his church and leads Sunday School classes and helps with worship every week, as well as volunteers for Vacation Bible School. He also assists with communication with the deaf in worship services and meetings at his church. He has sold concessions at WHS and directed cars in the parking lot at the Muni Opera.

Jonathan is currently undecided on which university he plans to attend.

September 2013 Student of the Month - Tyler Nichols

September Student of the Month - Tyler NicholsWilliamsville High School is pleased to announce that senior Tyler Nichols has been selected as the September Student of the Month. Tyler was selected by the senior class sponsors on the basis of academic performance, extra-curricular participation, and personal traits. He will receive a $100 cash award from the Williamsville State Bank and will also be eligible for Student of the Year.

Tyler is consistently listed on the high honor roll and is a member of the WHS chapter of the National Honor Society. He has received the honor of being a member of the 2013-2014 PSAE Exceeds Team. Tyler recently represented his class on the 2013 Homecoming Court. During the summer of 2013, Tyler was selected to participate in the American Cancer Society Summer Research Program for High School Students. His project was the "Characterization of Prostaglandin E2 Receptor Expression in Human Natural Killer Cells".

Tyler has played four great years for the Bullet football team, serving as co-captain during his senior year. After the conclusion of last season, Tyler was named to the 2012 3A Illinois High School Football Coaches' Association Academic Team, the State Journal Register All Area Football Team, and the 1st Team Offense Sangamo All Conference Team.

Tyler is also a four year member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, currently serving as FCA Leader. He is a member of the Williamsville United Methodist Church and balances part-time employment into his busy schedule. He served one year on Student Council, Track, and the Engineering Explorer's Post #6.

Tyler has volunteered for community service agencies such as the Kumler Hospitality House, Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach, St. John's Breadline, WHS Community Food and Teen Gift Drive, WHS Concession Stands, the Farmingdale Presbyterian Church and the Williamsville United Methodist Church.

Tyler plans to attend a four year university in the fall.

Student of the Year 2012-2013 - Mackenzie McCall

September Student of the Month - Mackenzie McCallWilliamsville High School is pleased to announce that Mackenzie McCall has been selected as the Student of the Year for 2012-2013.

Mackenzie was selected by the senior class sponsors on the basis of academic performance, extra-curricular participation, and personal traits. Mackenzie received a $100 cash award from the Williamsville State Bank for being Student of the Month in September.

Mackenzie is consistently listed on the High Honor Roll and is a member of the Scholastic Bowl team. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and is currently serving as President of the WHS chapter. She is a PSAE Exceeds award recipient by exceeding in the Math, Reading, and Science portions of the exam.

Mackenzie has been actively involved in the fine arts department by singing in Madrigals, choir, competing in IHSA Solo & Ensemble events and performing in the WHS plays and musicals. She has also taken piano lessons throughout high school and maintained part-time employment.

Mackenzie volunteers her time at the Inner City Mission, Elementary school Bridge Program and by helping high students with their studies through the Peer Tutoring program. She is actively involved in community outreach programs though the Williamsville United Methodist Church and the Williamsville Christian Church and fundraising for the Vocal Music Boosters. She has also provided backstage help with the junior high musicals and assisted with the Scholastic Book Fairs for the district libraries.

Mackenzie plans to major in mathematics.
